As Congress continues crafting/finalizing the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations, critical decisions are being made that will impact the future of America’s wild horses and burros. While details of the budget are still emerging, there is concern within the advocacy community about funding cuts to the Wild Horse and Burro Program and the omission of long-standing protective language that prevents the slaughter or mass euthanasia of healthy wild horses and burros. 

We believe it is essential to stay ahead of the process and remind our elected officials that Americans overwhelmingly support the humane management and lifelong protection of these iconic animals.

Now is the time to act.
Please contact your members of Congress and urge them to:

• Maintain full funding for humane, science-based management of wild horses and burros, including proven fertility control methods to keep our wild horses and burros WILD AND FREE.

• Ensure that protective language remains in place to prevent the killing or sale of horses and burros for slaughter.
