Click here to read a poem written by Leanna Haag, a young woman who had the pleasure of seeing Admiral and Climbs High just a few days before their death. Below is an excerpt from the letter she sent along with her poem:
"On the 22 of July, [we] were scrambling over the Dryhead buttes and weaving in and out of the sage brush to try and get better pictures of Admiral and his family. Then, two days later, he and Climbs High were gone. My grandpa spotted a dead horse along the rode, and we stopped. We had a good guess that it was Admiral, but I couldn't believe it. I had just taken pictures of him the other night! It couldn't be him. But then we saw Seneca and Hightail...and we knew. At first we thought that Admiral was the only casualty, but when we couldn't find Climbs High with the girls, we went searching. We came upon him before we reached Admiral. He was lying off the rode a ways, his head lying beneath a juniper bush. That's when I started to cry - seeing in his dark glassy eyes a reflection of the vast Montana sky."
